Welcome to Mode Master
the guitar modes and scales computer

If you're studying guitar modes and scales I think you will
get a kick out of this little tool.

Here's how it works.  Indicate the key and mode in the drop
down box and you will see the relative notes appear on the
guitar neck in the key you requested.

Alternate tuning? No problem.

I find it very helpful to build finger memory and to confirm
what I'm doing.

I would be curious to hear what you think
(click the email address at the bottom of the application).

Enjoy,
Christopher D. "Rook" Mears

FEEDBACK

6/1/2008 "...musical notation...", Mike Z.
How do you make a guitar player shut up? Put sheet music in front of him!? Not for Mike. Good idea. It is planned for next release.

5/31/2008 "Maybe have a small box that says when these notes are in another scale. For example if you have D Dorian, then in the box it would say, 'these notes are also shared with the C Major scale.' ", Jeremy
Good idea.

3/21/2007 "Would be nice if under color options .. you could choose more than just the root note or just color mode. Like where just 3rds or 5ths are located related to the root note.", Jim
Good idea.

1/4/2007 Is there anyway to flip it around to make it easier for left handed players to read?
It is planned for future releases.

12/13/2006 Sorry guys, I just noticed that the problem with the size of the application in Firefox popped up again.
Fixed.

9/29/2006 "What about if we could hear the scales?", Dinoel
Good idea. I will do it if I can do it right, -guitar- sounds and not that annoying MIDI keyboard sound.

07/31/2006 "...maybe make printing easier.", MAC
Good idea. I will do this.

06/21/2006 "All good! ...Why not bass, 7 string or banjo too?", Duncan Black
Good idea. For those of you who do not know Duncan check his video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fb_kcTA5q7U

03/16/2006 "...could you possibly just isolate a mode to one position, for example G Ionian (major) at the third fret. Maybe you could have a drop down box with position 1,2,3 etc for the user to select.", Jim
Good idea. I'll look into it.

10/22/2005 "Can you indicate and incorporate cords with the scales?", T. George G.
It goes beyond my original scope for this project but it's a great idea. I will investigate this further.

09/26/2005 "Make it easy to print out patterns.", Rookie
I will look into this.

Yea. Why Not?

08/24/2005 "The reverse headstock is a little disorienting", Rich
I chopped off the reverse headstock and labeled the 'top string'.

03/27/2005 "Too many dots. Place emphasis on common playing patterns.", Steffen
Great idea.  I need to think about how I can program it.  The fact that you can tune the guitar any way, may make this difficult to accomplish.  But I really like the idea and want to make it happen.

03/27/2005 "Make FLASH .SWF file downloadable", Alex
Early versions of Mode Master were downloadable for those that knew how.   However; my goal is to generate traffic, to eventually attract advertisers.  I would like the revenue to fund other projects.

02/19/2005 "You could make the guitar neck a little longer. At least up to fret 20 or so."
The dots start getting a little too close together at fret 20. How about up to fret 17?
Done

02/19/2005 "Make the dots line up a little more to the left of the fret so they don't overlap the frets."

02/19/2005 "You will get more feedback if you make your e-mail address click-able."
